Pittsburgh Irish Happenings
Beannockti Blean Nuah!
A Blessed New Year !
January 2007
Dear Friends,
From Echoes of Erin, WEDO 810AM, I wish all of you the best the New Year has to offer! Seize those opportunities and meet the challenges that surely will occur over the year, just recognize them!
Firstly, I would like to Thank You for all the support you have provided to the program this past year; be it financial, physical labor, talent, encouraging words and moral support. All of it is very important and really helps in the overall scope and depth of the ultimate goal – continuing Irish Programming on WEDO.
February 2007 the program begins its 19th year broadcasting on WEDO. It has been quite an interesting journey. Over the years, I have met the movers & shakers in Irish politics and some of the best entertainers in Irish Music; enjoyed their company, and lifted a jar or two with many. Through this association I have been fortunate to bring to you their music, either live or recorded, their wit & humor and some good stories, and many interesting interviews. Echoes of Erin has helped to put the greater Pittsburgh area on the map for Irish entertainment; plus the program has received international recognition as a result of interviews and news articles on the program in various places in Ireland. This has all been possible because of YOU, and the support you have provided. And for this, I am most grateful.
The Sponsorship of The Ireland Report has been very successful the past two years and I’m anticipating success for next year as well; although a few months have just opened up and are waiting for you to make a commitment, and you don’t have to be ‘local’ to be a Sponsor.
Our Sponsors have been excellent benefactors; The Ireland Report is one of the most listened to segments. Everyone seems to really enjoy the news live, even though sometimes I fill in from County Allegheny. My News Correspondents include:
- Patricia Sharkey, from Donegal, Editor of the Donegal Newsletter and heard the first Sunday of the month.
- Ann Bray from Dublin, second Sunday;
- Davy Kettyles, from Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, heard the third Sunday; and
- Mairtin O’Muilleoir, from Belfast, Managing Editor of the Andersonstown News Group, heard the fourth Sunday of the month.
These talented correspondents give us a broad overview of the news throughout the island of Ireland.
Some exciting events will be taking place over the next few months leading up to St. Patrick’s Day. Continue to check out the Blog for weekly updates on Dateline. If you can hear the program each Sunday, there will be a variety of ‘give-aways’ from tickets to performances to CD’s and DVD’s of performing groups.
Over the year I receive many CD’s from the artists and record companies. Shortly I will begin to write a review on new music arriving in 2007. As a Singer, Musician and recording artist, you are welcome to send copies of your material review and air play to Echoes of Erin, 78 Grant Avenue, Pittsburgh PA 15223.
