In My Opinion
There are many thoughts running around in my brain on Irish issues, perhaps I should zip my lip and not say anything, but then again, maybe I should.
The first issue is on our U.S. Federal authorities demanding from Boston College the oral history testimonies on The Troubles in the North of Ireland. These testimonies were given under the auspices of ‘confidentiality’. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) want these testimonies to investigate the disappearance and murder 40 years ago of Jean McConville, a mother of ten children whose body was recovered in 2003. For years the police wanted nothing to do with investigating Mrs. McConville; now they want everything Boston College has.
Should our U.S. government be successful in acquiring these documents from Boston College it jeopardizes all sorts of oral history plus it can have a very negative impact on the peace process in the North of Ireland. How could people dare open up and speak the truth with the possibility of interrogation and prosecution by the Brits or some other government body.
In my opinion, Irish America better get together and protest these actions by our government. They are being used as a pawn by the British government.
The whole bloody affair in the North of Ireland was a result of the unfairness and injustice of the British government for so many years. If anyone is to be prosecuted for death & destruction, it should be the entire British government.
