Guests and Interviews Coming Up!!

Over the next two months the following folks will either be my guest on the program or I will be conducting a telephone interview with them.

The Cleveland Cultural Festival takes place July 22 through 24 and while I am attending this excellent festival, Jim Caldwell, who is with the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Divison 1, Knights of Equity, Irish American Unity Conference, and Conway Mill Trust, will be filling in for me broadcasting the program. Jim has filled in many times before and does a superb job.

The beautifully gifted singer and harpist, Orla Fallon will be performing August 6th at the Carnegie Music Hall of Homestead in Munhall. This Music Hall is one of the treasures we have in the area; it is outstanding.

Good friend Larry Brophy will be traveling in Ireland participating in some of the Hunger Strike Commemorations. On August 14 we'll have a conversation with Larry as he informs us of this experience.

Later in August, Bill Lee, President of Washington County AOH Division 1 will be my guest. This AOH Division will be sponsoring a fundraiser "Irish Honor America" with a singing program at the Rostrevor Ice Garden. This particular division is known for their excellent singing ability, and they put it to good use!!

A Day of Irish Entertainment

On Saturday, June 18th, the AOH and LAOH Divisions 4 in the North Hills of Pittsburgh are sponsoring a really fun, family day at The Croatian Center on Schitizen Park Road off Babcock Blvd. in Millvale.

Here are a few pictures from past years.

Here we have Porky, Red, and Jack McGuire, both men are from the Knights of Equity.

Here are some of the 'Cooks in the Kitchen', the O'Brien Clan with Lynn, Marie Jr. and Marie Sr.

Steve Kurpewski is some of the 'strength' behind organizing this event and setting up the venue; lots of hard work here.

This Gazebo is part of the lovely setting at The Croatian Center; and see the picnic table. All you need is a tablecloth.

Here we have the Evans Family -- on the left is Paul with his daughters Madeline and Abagail along with his mother Mona, and father Bill.

The entire family is invited to "A Day of Irish Entertainment; there will be Irish music throughout the day with Whiskey Limerick and Cue Ball. Plus there will be a Juggler and Balloon Artist for the children. Your donation of $15.00 per adult gets you in the park and includes adult beverages. A variety of foods will be available for purchase, plus there will be many baskets on raffle, and a few other items to purchase.

The only things you need to bring is yourself and a tablecloth as there are picnic tables to sit and enjoy the ambiance of the venue.

The entertainment: Whiskey Limerick is a family group comprised of Jerry on percussion (father), the twins Brian on fiddle, Kevin on guitar, Sean on guitar, and Lauren on bass. All the members sing and 'Mama' is a marvelous character to enjoy cause she is really enjoying her family and she'll get you going to!!

Cue Ball is comprised of Mike 'Mitch' Arnold on guitar & vocals, Joe 'Chubby Jackson' Johns on bass, Evan 'Big Daddy E' Rowles on drums, Tim 'Irish Stew' Stewart on keyboard, accordion, harmonica and vocals, and Mark 'Skydoggie' Wilcox on guitar. (These guys like 'nick names'). They do a really good job as well with a mix of Trad with a bit of Blues, R&B, and Contemporary mixed in for some good ingredients.

There will be some Irish stepdancing and of course you'll be able to lay a step or two on the dance floor with both groups.

And if there should be a few showers, not to worry, as we are under cover. So rain or shine it will be a grand day on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at The Croatian Center, or as some of refer to the venue as Schitizen Park.

Come on our and join us!!

It has been a few weeks since I posted to my blog with Playlists and Dateline Irish. Amazingly time passes quickly, so quickly in fact that I was busy with other aspects of life.

Tonight I have posted the Playlists from May 15, 22, 29 and June 6. There have been some really good songs aired over these weeks, with many new recordings and some old ones as well.

Also posted tonight is the most current Dateline Irish. Utilize this tool for your planning purposes, or if you have questions on information here, you are welcome to contact the organization / venue, etc. for clarification.

Have a very enjoyable Summer as you journey along those 'summer roads' and come back in the fall with some good stories. Remember you can listen to Echoes of Erin anywhere in the world, here is all you do --
